I’m Cindy Campbell and I’m the Program Director for the Children’s Brain Tumor Project laboratories at Weill Cornell Medicine. I am also the founder of a nonprofit called the Ty Louis Campbell Foundation, in memory of my son who died of brain cancer in 2012. He was five years old.

Prior to joining WCM, I was a Marketing Director at PricewaterhouseCoopers after many years of working at NYC-based public relations agencies including Weber Shandwick and Cohn & Wolfe. Upon my son’s diagnosis, I felt the need to change the course of my career to focus on helping other children like him, and I know that research is the only way forward.

My role is unique. It isn’t often that a parent works beside the lab team. I feel that my position brings a sense of unity between the families and the science, it brings a new perspective into the lab environment, and it brings accountability among the researchers because I am a physical reminder of how important their work is. I was passionate about becoming a Center of Excellence for the Gift from a Child initiative, and I am personally ensuring that the GFAC team is delivering on this important program.
