Maksim’s Legacy
The first time Maksim was diagnosed was in 2015. He was almost 6. We had just started kindergarten—and it had only been half a year since we began a new life in the U.S. The diagnosis was medulloblastoma. Surgery, radiation, chemo. It was hard, but he did it!
Then there were six years of remission. Hospital visits, MRIs, tests, and daily pills. He stayed strong.
In 2022–2023, the cancer came back. This time it was high-grade and low-grade gliomas in different spots of his brain. Again: surgery, radiation, chemo. He stayed strong—for two years.
Spring 2024 was the hardest time. The cancer “burnt” him in just two months.
A few months before, Maksim had tests at school and the hospital. They asked him what he wanted to do in life—his future profession. He said he wanted to serve as a policeman or go into the army. To help and protect our people.
He had no time… He was never afraid. He never cried. Beautifully brave.
We hope the Gift From the Child will help make his dreams come true—to help and protect our children in the future. Through science, doctors, new protocols, and new medicines.
