Memory Monday: Andrew Haggenmiller

Through love, laughter, and loss, the one constant and our favorite has been music. Andrew would sing while taking a bath; he would hum while getting ready to go to school. There were nearly nightly living room dance parties where he would strum his ukulele using the fireplace as a stage. When he got sick, we had battle cries, all but shouted, during frequent trips to the Children’s Hospital. There were quiet chemo nights, perched upright and motionless, watching music videos to distract from the pain and nausea. At the end, a hospice provider would use music to soothe Andrew…and us.

We’re two years removed from losing Andrew but each song transcends time and connects us again.
